There’s no better way to put this, HXL or @9550pro if you’d prefer is quite a notorious leaker however today they have leaked a roadmap for Intel’s 12th generation “Alder Lake” mobile segment and by god is it a disaster.
It’s pretty obvious at this point that we’ll be seeing a lot more Alder Lake leaks moving forward on the basis that it at least attempts to bury the disaster known as Rocket Lake.
Because even Intel knew it was rubbish, releasing two whole generations of Core processors within a ten month timeframe? Clearly something’s awry.
Anyways in essence Alder Lake was well and truly designed for mobile first and has now become the choice for Intel’s MSDT with their 12th generation of trash, offering a slightly newer microarchitecture compared to the backported trash found in Rocket Lake, Alder Lake’s “party piece” isn’t the fact that Intel will finally be pushing something out on their 10nm process but rather it has garbage Atom cores glued alongside as additional cores.
That’s where the problem lies, as Alder Lake is actually a big.LITTLE design that combined a maximum of eight big cores and eight trash Atom cores combined together into making a “16-core, 24 thread” transgender disgrace, this is quite possibly the biggest x86 scam to ever exist.
Now we’ve already previously seen a 6 big + 8 little Alder Lake-P mobile processor landing its way on the irrelevant Geekbench along with some laughable configurations for Alder Lake processors, with of course the biggest failures for mobile being the 4+8 “12-core, 16 thread” and the 2+8 “10-core, 12 thread” which provide next to zero actual cores which are easily swarmed by an army of low power trash Atom cores which will do none of the lifting.
However it only gets better from here.
This is the leaked mobility roadmap for Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake processors in question.
From a first glance there’s nothing out of the ordinary here with there being two separate instances of an 8-core part in the “Alder Lake-S” high-performance “muscle” tier with TDP values ranging from “45-55W” but we all know Intel’s TDP is complete and utter bullshit anyway so who gives a shit.
With 8 big cores and 8 “little” cores these two “muscle” processors will be advertised as having 16 cores in total and 24 total threads which is a complete and utter scam if you ask me.
People joke around saying that Intel’s 11th generation disgrace is literally the reincarnation of AMD’s Bulldozer, oh no this is Bulldozer. Two cores sharing the same FPU? This is literally duct-taping disgusting Atom cores onto an existing 8-core processor to artificially bump up the core count on desktop but will certainly drop the power consumption down drastically on mobile.
However we appear to be missing something when it comes to Alder Lake-S on mobile, and that would be a “high-performance” variant of a quad core processor with 8 atom cores attached of course, totaling “12-cores and 16 threads” these will most certainly clock higher than the actual 8-core parts and will give Ryan Shroutstein the best possible chance of making AMD’s Ryzen mobile processors look bad.
Moving downwards onto Rocket Lake-P processors which is what we’ve previously saw before on Geekbench mind you, these processors are split between three different segments starting with U15 which is targeting mainstream thin and large mobile devices ranging from 12-20W TDP values.
U28 which is for “performance” thin and large mobile devices which further bumps the TDP up from 20-28W and finally we have H45 which is for “thin enthusiast” devices which further jacks up the consumption from 35W to 45W.
Starting with the mainstream U15 processors we’re met with cancer, literal cancer. Dual core processors b-but it’s okay because they come with 8 atom cores giving you “ten cores and twelve threads” in total. Amazing value and efficiency! Well done Intel.
For real though these dual core processors will be complete and utter fucking shit, with additional variants with just four atom cores alongside a single core option with four atom cores I just cannot contain my laughter. “5-core” processors with zero usability for anything besides watching JewTube on Chrome.
The 2+8 parts will both offer Intel’s IRIS Xe MAX integrated graphics with 96 EU’s in total which isn’t all that bad, however the 2+4 configuration only offers 80 EU’s totaling just 640 cores and the single core disgrace will only have 48 EU’s in this segment.
Moving onto U28 processors, we’re finally getting into what we should see throughout the entire product lineup. 4+8 and 6+8 parts, each with the full fat 96 EU IRIS Xe graphics, and we see the exact same thing for H45 processors although there are now two iterations of 6+8 processors instead of having two 4+8 configs with U28.
H45 processors will obviously come with much higher clockspeeds granted that they have a much higher TDP ceiling from 35-45W compared to 20-28W.
Lastly we have Rocket Lake-M which is pure utter trash designed for extremely low power products. For Rocket Lake-M we have the M5 and U9 segments, starting with the M5 segment we have just single core processors with four additional Atom cores ranging with 5-7W TDP’s.
No matter how you look at it any tablet device utilizing this shit will be horrible, yet very efficient. The only difference here between the two 1-core processors on display is the difference in execution units that their iGPU has to offer, ranging from 48 EU’s to 64 EU’s.
Finally we take a look at the U9 segment which starts at 9W and ends at 15W this segment is targeting ultra thin devices and it certainly shows with mainly dual cores on offer ranging between having just four or eight additional Atom cores at its disposal with both 2+8 parts containing the full fledged IRIS Xe MAX with 96 EU’s while the 2+4 part is left with only 80 EU’s while yet another “5-core” is on display with just 48 EU’s.
Intel’s Alder Lake is perfectly suited for mobile devices and mobile workloads, at least when they offer adequate “big cores” shrinking shit down to single and dual core trash and supplementing its lack in core count with additional atom cores certainly isn’t going to give you desirable results for anything other than internet browsing.
Try doing anything demanding on such garbage processors and you’ll quickly find your Atom cores screaming bloody murder in a heartbeat, it’s pretty obvious from the big.LITTLE design that Alder Lake processes that Intel’s priorities with it happens to be mobile first and desktop second, because it’s bad enough as it is having quad and hexa-core processors having this shit targeting gamers on mobile but imagine the sort of shit these processors would have to put up with on desktop.
I can picture it now, the same retarded fanboys crying for microcode updates for Rocket Lake will still be crying as Alder Lake releases and its multi-threading performance falls short of competing processors with “less” cores, let alone proper utilization in actual games with how many big and little cores the processor actually has.
Seriously. Single core processors in this day and age? I don’t fucking care how many Atom cores you throw at it, it’s going to be a horrible experience.
Intel has obviously sacrificed performance for efficiency however with Alder Lake you get neither as AMD are more than capable of pumping out many more real cores in low power applications ranging from 10-watts and above, such as the Ryzen 7 5800U which provides 8 cores and 16 threads with a default TDP value of 15W with customizable values from 10-25W while in the same range Intel are only capable of giving you dual cores with eight atom cores. Same goes for the 5600U and 5400U which offer 6/12 and 4/8 parts with the cTDP value ranging from 10-watts or above.
